Hugh Low is probably best known as a colonial administrator, both in Borneo and on the Malay Peninsula. However what took him to Borneo in the first place was botany. Here, published for the first time, is his account of those early years when he was the first to record various orchid species and other plants, sending back specimens to Kew Gardens in the UK. Also included are nearly sixty colour plates of paintings of his finds from his collection. The journal has been edited by RHW Reece with botanical notes by Phillip Cribb. 206 pages.
