This wide ranging survey of puppet theatre in South is based on field research undertaken by the author in the 1960s. He argues that this form of theatre originated in Asia, where its variety is still strongest. Although religious and historical themes predominate, several traditions also deal with more day to day issues. Amply illustrated with colour and black and white photographs. 108 pages with a bibliography and an index.
