Britain, The Brookes and Brunei - Nicholas Tarling This study covers British contact with Brunei and its successor states from the late 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. The interventions of the Brookes and then members of the North Borneo company continued to serve this purpose although at times their independence from the Colonial Office posed problems for London. 578 pages. Weight: 1.4.kg. *On request this book will be sent post free by surface mail to any part of the world when it is part of an order weighing at least 2 kilos.* Published by Oxford University Press, Kuala Lumpur, 1971. First edition. Condition:Good. Hardback in Good dust jacket. This is an ex library book but attempts have been made to clean it up. While there are two stamps on the text block another stamp on the reverse of the title page has been whitened out and a sticker appears to have been quite cleanly removed from a rear end paper. The dust jacket has a small label at the foot of the spine, is price clipped, has some rubbing at the extremities and one or two nicks, but is now protected in a plastic jacket. Otherwise the binding is tight and the text clear. |
