Sultan Azlan Shah, who died in 2014, was the 34th sultan of the Malaysian state of Perak and the ninth king of independent Malaysia. His life was more memorable that most sultans in the period after independence because he had a thriving career before he succeeded to the sultanate. After training as a lawyer in the UK, he returned to practice in Malaysia, joined the judiciary and rose to become the youngest person to ever hold Malaysia's highest judicial position, the Lord President of the Federal Court a year before becoming sultan of Perak. The book is probably hagiographic in style, but was written by one of Malaysia's most noted historians, and therefore is likely to contain many useful insights into Malaysian royalty despite the restricted remit. 190 pages.
